Cuban-born flutist Ernesto Fernandez earned a degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Performance with an emphasis in Music Business from the University of Miami. His dissertation provides a methodology for learning to play and improvise in the Cuban charanga style, examining the structural differences of the five-key flute and Boehm flute.


A versatile musician skilled in both classical and Latin genres, Ernesto Fernandez has performed in countries like Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Nicaragua, and in cities like Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City. Ernesto has been the featured guest artist at the prestigious Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland. He has also offered private jazz lessons to flute legend Sir James Galway.


Ernesto Fernandez is endorsed by Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments, Inc and served as the Jazz Competitions Coordinator for the National Flute Association for five years. A regular clinician and performer at state and national flute conventions, Ernesto has also collaborated in multiple GRAMMY-nominated and Latin GRAMMY-nominated projects. 2019 was a very productive year for Ernesto, as he composed an original work titled Danzon Nuestra Vida for his new album. The piece was also arranged for flute ensemble and premiered at the annual Honors Flute Festival at Slippery Rock University in 2019. It was also performed at the National Flute Convention in Salt Lake City that same year. Also in 2019 Ernesto released his feature album Pa'lante, with numerous world-renowned guest artists from the classical and Latin music industry. In 2020, Ernesto will be the featured guest artist at the annual Florida Flute Convention.


Ernesto Fernandez maintains a balanced musical career as a performing artist and educator. His career objective is to guide and develop the artistic, intellectual, and professional growth of students while maintaining an active role as a performing and recording artist in the community, state, and country.
