Cuban-born flutist Dr. Ernesto Fernandez earned his Ph.D. in Instrumental Performance and Music Business from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He also holds a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. He is currently a Faculty Fellow for The Honors College at Florida International University and Director of Bands for the District of Columbia Public Schools. He is also the flutist for Miami-based genre-bending orchestra, Nu Deco Ensemble.
As a recording artist, Ernesto holds a Latin GRAMMY nomination for Best Traditional Tropical Album for his album PA'LANTE, in which various world-renowned artists from the classical and Latin music industry collaborated. He has also recorded with numerous artists in other GRAMMY-nominated albums. His music is available on all digital platforms.

Dr. Ernesto Fernandez is endorsed by Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments, Inc. and over the years has presented and performed at the annual National Flute Convention. He also served as the Jazz Competitions Coordinator for the National Flute Association for five years, coordinating and producing masterclasses and competitions for high school jazz flutists. In 2022, Ernesto premiered his original single Una Noche a Tu Lado, and in 2019 premiered and published his danzón Nuestra Vida at the National Flute Convention in Salt Lake City.
A versatile musician and educator skilled in classical and Latin genres, Dr. Ernesto Fernandez has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Nicaragua, as well as in Miami, Tampa, Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City. Ernesto was the headline artist for the prestigious Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland in 2017, hosted by flute legend Sir James Galway, who also received jazz flute lessons from him.
 Dr. Ernesto Fernandez maintains a balanced musical career as a recording/performing artist while developing the artistic, intellectual, and professional growth of his students.
